A Ludlow post office is one of 28 branches across Shropshire to face closure.
East Hamlet post office, run by postmaster Mike Lyne, is set to close as part of the Post Office Ltd’s cost-cutting measures.
Mr Lyne said: “We are in shock. The community will be devastated and it will especially affect the older people.”
The news has been met with criticism by members of Ludlow Chamber of Trade who are disappointed by the move. Chairman Peter Cook said, “We’ve organised an informal meeting with Mr Lyne and have invited county, district and town councillors to attend.
“There’s a major irony in the fact that, the day after the Post Office announced that East Hamlet was on its list for proposed closures, that the one in Tower Street was closed for business, leading to massive queues in New Road for post office services.”
The meeting will take place Thursday, April 10 at 7pm in the Bull Hotel. Everyone is welcome to attend.
