Four Ludlow’s town councillors will not be putting themselves forward as mayor of Ludlow ahead of the council meeting on May 12.
Candidates for mayor and deputy mayor will have to be proposed and seconded at the meeting and a mayor and deputy-mayor elect chosen – and those interested have not yet spoken up.
Councillors Graeme Kidd, Nick Galtress, Jim Smithers and Graeme Perks have all said they will not be standing.
Councillor Perks said commitments elsewhere prevented him from standing this year.
He said: “I would love to. But I’m going to be a councillor for the next four years, I’ll have plenty of opportunities.”
In addition, Councillor Smithers, the current deputy mayor said he would stand for the deputy position again if proposed but would definitely not be standing for mayor.
He told the Journal: “I don’t have time for it. I have just taken on a business in the centre of town and have a lot of work to do with that.”
After the meeting on May 12, the mayor and deputy mayor elect have to be formally ratified in a mayor making ceremony at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on May 21.
