The long-awaited district council planning meeting to decide whether to allow a Bishop’s Castle biomass plant has been postponed – and will be held in the town itself.
The controversial proposal has attracted some 370 letters of opposition, and on Tuesday it was announced by Jake Berriman, SSDC’s chief planning officer that it had been decided to defer the decision to a separate all-day meeting.
He told the Journal: “I took the view that this issue would be crowding out others on the agenda.
“We’d had a substantial postbag on this and some came in after the deadline – one a detailed 33-page letter from the opposing Bishop’s Castle Group that I felt should be given full consideration.
“I will be amending my report to the committee in the light of these new submissions.
“I expect the meeting in Bishop’s Castle to last all day and for us to hear all interested parties.
“The committee will then give its decision.”
The meeting will be on Tuesday, May 20 in the Public Hall at Bishop’s Castle. It will start at 10.30am.
