Journalists were thrown out of a threatened Mid Wales residential care home, after concerned residents invited them in.
Among those who were asked to leave the Royal British Legion’s Crosfield House home in Rhayader on Wednesday were BBC Mid Wales reporter Steve Jones, who had been invited by relatives Dave Woods and Terry Michaelson-Yeates to interview their mother and father respectively about their uncertain futures.
Mr Jones said: “I have spoken to the BBC and they are happy to use the footage shot at the invitation of residents and their relatives.
“Crosfield House is their home and management have no right to say who can or cannot visit them.”
Town councillors John Heale Humphreys, Clair Evans and Gillian Williams and Rhayader mayor Councillor John Jones, RBL branch treasurer Gwyn Jones and off duty staff members Anita Williams and Julia Farmer were also asked to leave the building.
Councillor Jones said: “The residents cannot be gagged. Persistent rain meant it wasn’t feasible to conduct interviews outside. The management have no right to try preventing residents from voicing their concerns over their future.”
Manager Marina Bowles said she had been directed by the RBL headquarters in Pall Mall to stop filming in the building.
