There will be one new team in next season’s Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South), with Penybont Athletic granted membership at Monday’s annual meeting at Llandrindod Wells Football Club.
The league, however, is uncertain as to the number of clubs it will run with next term, with Rhayader Town given until Tuesday to indicate whether they will be fielding a side following their promotion to the Spar Mid Wales League.
Penybont have followed Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells, who formed a second team last season, but as they play in the same league, like the other two, have to in effect be a separate club.
A large turn out – only two clubs were not represented – saw Edward Parry elected as chairman in place of Brian Bufton, who stands down having held the post for 24 years. Mr Parry is a former secretary of Llanidloes Town FC and also the current treasurer of the Spar Mid Wales League.
Neil Mathias steps up from the executive committee to the post of vice-chairman, while former Llandrindod Wells secretary Steph Crowther and David Lewis, a keen follower of local football, were elected on to the executive committee.
Trevor Johnson relinquished his position on the executive. Treasurer and secretary remain the same, with Phil Woosnam and Paul Worts continuing to carry out their duties, while Sid Bufton remains as president of the league.
Edward Parry and Paul Worts will continue to represent the league on the Central Wales Football Assoc- iation.
Teams playing an ineligible player in future will have three points deducted, while the result of a match abandoned after 80 minutes will stand. The previous rule was 70 minutes.
Home clubs must also telephone their result to the league secretary by 6pm – otherwise incur a fine.
The League will again be known as the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South), with Roger Watson continuing his support. Pip Samuel will again sponsor the League Cup and Mr and Mrs Eaton (Aspidistra) the Radnorshire Cup.
The secretary and treasurer both thanked the sponsors for their invaluable support, with Woosnam stating that both the league and Radnorshire Cup had made a profit over the season.
The 2008-2009 season will kick off on Saturday, August 23 while a date for the Summer Cup Final between Rhayader Town and Hay St Marys is to be arranged.
FAW Councillors Phil Jones and Dai Alun Jones both addressed the meeting and complimented officials for their running of the league.
