Druken woman tried to kick PC

A Bishop’s Castle woman pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer while handcuffed and in custody, a court was told.

Tasmin Rose Hilditch, 25, of Corick’s Rise, attempted to kick local PC Douglas Anderson in the groin, Ludlow magistrates heard yesterday.

PC Anderson and a colleague were on routine patrol in the early hours of August 6, when they received complaints that a woman had been causing a disturbance.

Prosecutor Rob Edwards said the two officers caught up with the defendant and found she was drunk. She swore at the officers and they warned her about her behaviour.

Hilditch was later arrested for being drunk and disorderly. While in custody, she was left with PC Anderson and asked him to remove her handcuffs. He refused and she became violent, attempting to kick him in the crotch. He managed to avoid this but was caught on the knee.

Defending, Ann Matthews said: “Tasmin does have a problem with alcohol which she uses to deal with her husband being violent to her.”

Ms Matthews said Hilditch had been assaulted earlier that evening.

She added: “She had a bump on her head and cuts on her arm, she did not know where her children were. She didn’t help this by drinking. She was in a state of distress and didn’t clearly know what was going on.”

Sentencing was adjourned to allow time for reports to be submitted.
