Llan’dod captures ‘Holy Grail’

Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club men’s team captured their own version of the Holy Grail on Sunday when they lifted the Cambrian Rosebowl – for the first time in the 96 years history of the club!

The measure of how much the competition has been a bogey for the club is that they have lost in the final on no fewer than eight previous occasions.

This competition is one of the most prestigious in Wales – it is open to all the bowls clubs in Montgomeryshire, Cardiganshire and Radnorshire, and around 32 teams entered this year.

So by winning  effectively Llandrindod Wells become champions of the three countiues. Team members under the captaincy of Ray Price were naturally delighted after their win.

The final took place at Machynlleth Bowling Greens against Welshpool BC, with Llandrindod eventually winning by three shots, 81 to 78 – they had led all the way through the 21 ends.

They were 10 shots up after five ends, 12 up after 10, five after 15 , and three after 18, a lead they held till the end.

The Rosebowl was presented by Mr Gwynne Jones on behalf of the Cambrian News to Llandrindod captain Ray Price.
