Glenn Tolley is poised to make his Presteigne debut tomorrow (Saturday) as the East Radnor side travel to Carno in the Spar Mid Wales League.
The former Shrewsbury Town, Northwich Victoria and Telford United midfielder recently left Welsh Premier side Newtown citing work commitments, and Presteigne have moved swiftly to secure his signature.
But whereas Tolley is lined up for his debut tomorrow, Presteigne are without other key players. Kenny Styles and Lee Sutton are both unavailable, while player-manager Mike Symonds is struggling to shrug off an injury.
But Mattie Davies is included in he squad for the first time since his transfer from Rhayader Town. Of Tuesday night’s draw with Newbridge, Presteigne assistant manager Tom Ammonds said “ It was a good game and it would have been nice to have got a win. But we will view it as a point gained rather than two lost as we twice had to come from behind”.
Newbridge boss Kevin Price said “In the first half we needed that third goal but all in all it was a fair result”
Tomorrow Newbridge head for Spar newcomers Dyffryn Banw keen to collect their first win of the campaign. Gareth Hammonds and Will Green, who were among the substitutes in midweek, are unavailable but otherwise the Villagers expect to be at full strength.
Meanwhile Rhayader Town have a goalkeeping problem on the eve of their home clash with Llanrhaeadr with both Tom Lloyd-Williams and Ed Jones ruled out.
Player-manager Dylan McPhee, who himself has been sidelined for two weeks ,could don the keeper’s jersey while Marc Maunder returns.
Rhayader then host Newbridge on Tuesday night with club officials anticipating a bumper crowd for the eagerly awaited local derby.
Presteigne are also in action again on Tuesday night in the first round of this season’s Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup. Presteigne are involved in one of the ties of the round when they entertain Mid Wales League (South) high fliers Hay St Marys.
Fil Wisniewski has high hope of leading Hay into the Spar League next season and sees this as a test as to how far the Saints have come.
