Hospital up for debate

Residents will be able to have their say about the development of a new community hospital for Ludlow at the next meeting of the Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural local joint committee next Thursday (September 25).

The meeting will be held at Palmers Hall, Ludlow College, Mill Street, Ludlow starting at 7pm, and all local residents are invited.

People will also be able to say how they think the committee should spend its budget of £35,000 to help boost the local area.

Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural covers the parishes of Ashford Bowdler, Ashford Carbonell, Caynham, Ludford and Richards Castle, as well as the Ludlow Town Council area.  The committee meets four times a year, and this will be the sixth time that it has met since it was set up in May 2007.

The meetings give people in the Ludlow area a chance to discuss important issues with their local county, district and parish councillors, and have their say on other matters of concern or interest.

Peter Corston, Shropshire County Councillor for Ludlow, and chairman of the committee, said: “The development of a new community hospital is a subject of interest to many local people, and I’m pleased we can offer people the chance to find out more, and to tell us what they think.

“I hope people will take the opportunity to come along and have their say about this issue – and about any other local issues that are of interest or concern.”

At the last meeting, held in June, residents heard about Shropshire County Council’s speed management initiatives, including village speed limits and interactive speed warning signs. Measures to protect the Broadgate arch in Ludlow, and the potential for changes to the town’s bus routes were also discussed.

It was also agreed to approve funding of £5,000 towards Ludlow Town Football Club’s artificial grass pitch for community use.
