Inn on the Green, Wentnor

There are 11 weeks to Christmas – but already the Inn on The Green at Wentnor is taking bookings for its traditional festive parties. 

rich.jpgRichard Semple, who runs the pub and creates the mouthwatering food, said he was even asked months ago about the Inn on the Green’s Christmas party menu!

“I’ve taken Christmas bookings already, and some book up from year to year. I was asked for our Christmas menu in August time, and at that point Christmas hadn’t even entered our minds.”

Christmas menus are now available at the pub, so either pop in and pick one up or ask Richard to post out a copy.

The three course Christmas menu offers a choice of four starters, three main courses, and a host of pudding. Shropshire turkey and Christmas pudding are always on the menu.

The Inn on the Green can cater for parties as small as six, right up groups of 30 or 40. This weekend a party of 50 are taking over the entire lounge and dining room.

Throughout November and December the Christmas menu will be on offer. Bookings are taken for any night of the week, but Thursday, Friday and Saturday prove most popular with party groups. Lunchtime parties can also be catered for.

“We’ll do whatever the customer wants,” said Richard. “I have one customer who comes here every year and always wants roast beef, not turkey – so that’s what we do for him.”

Because the pub has a separate dining room leading off the lounge, it’s ideal for larger groups. Richard Semple said the Inn on the Green really goes to town on creating a festive atmosphere.

The Christmas party menu price also includes crackers and party poppers, and the pub will be decorated with lights and feature a Christmas tree.

“We go to town on decorations. We definitely be-deck the pub with lights and holly, and have a large Christmas tree as well. We did have an enquiry from someone who said they didn’t like Christmas, so we said we really weren’t the place to stay if you wanted to avoid Christmas.”

The Inn on The Green even opens on Christmas Day until 2pm, and offers a famous and very popular Boxing Day carvery.
