Horsewoman Tor Smith, from Henley, near Acton Scott, has been selected once again to represent England.
Twenty-eight-year-old Tor runs an equestrian centre and also rides dressage horses and this is the third time she has ridden for her country. On this occasion she is taking part in the Home International Summer Competition at Clevedon in Somerset and she will now compete at senior level.
Mounted on the seven-year-old mare, Westpoint Fusion, Tor will be competing in the dressage classes against riders from the other home nations. For the uninitiated, dressage involves a series of movements and is designed to show what level of obedience and trainability the horse has reached, explained Tor. “I’m delighted to be chosen. It really is fantastic,” she added. “What make it even better is that the mare I’m riding suffered some horrendous injuries about three years ago and, at one time, it was touch-and-go.
“We weren’t sure she was going to pull through. Then we thought we’ll give her a try and she’s gone from strength to strength.”
Tor is leaving Shropshire today for the competition tomorrow. She thanks the Old Pound Veterinary Centre in Aston Munslow for their sponsorship.
