Join in protest over lights

Protesters against Powys County Council’s policy of turning 67 per cent of the county’s streetlights off to save money have set up a new website to campaign for the move to be reversed.

The Powys People website is calling on concerned residents to make their opinions known about this and other council plans.

A spokesman said: “Over the past few months, news has come thick and fast of how Powys County Council have controversially started switching off street lamps, dumping tourist information centres, and axing pensioners’ rail and travel cards, whereas many other councils seem to be in a much more stable position.

“The council wastes so much money with unnecessary jobs, and internal politics. All residents of Powys have recently received a magazine called Red Kite, which I believe is totally useless, with many staff employed to produce completely rubbish information.

“I’ve had enough. I’ve asked residents to send this magazine back to the council as a mark of protest that our money is being wasted. The Powys People website is at ww.geocities.com/powys people/
