Police target ‘out-alone’

Children found wandering town centres in Powys after 9pm over the festive season are to be sent home by police.

Dyfed-Powys Police will run high visibility foot patrols over Christmas to identify and protect potentially vulnerable children who are out late at night.

Officers will either direct the children home, ask their parents to collect them or take them to a place of safety.

Inspector Paul Ridley, who devised the initiative, said: “This strategy is part of our commitment to ensure that all members of the community receive an appropriate duty of care.

“With the Christmas party season upon us, our towns will be getting busier with revellers, which can sometimes lead to anti-social behaviour. Therefore, we will be targeting children aged between 11-17 who are congregating in town centres and ensuring their safety.

“Make sure we don’t pick up your child!”
