Knighton footballing prospect Wayne Farmer was presented with his Wales under-17 international cap at Shrewsbury Town’s televised match with Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this week.
Towering defender Farmer received the cap from Town manager Paul Simpson, watched by the club’s head of youth Nigel Vaughan and youth team mate Gareth Partridge, a striker from Wrexham, who joined the Mid Wales teenager on international duty back in the summer.
It was a proud moment for Farmer, who has enjoyed an impressive first half of the season in his opening campaign on the full time staff at the League Two club.
Farmer has held down a regular place in the Town youth team and helped them reach the third round of the FA Youth Cup, playing at Portman Road as the run was ended with a 1-0 defeat against Ipswich earlier this month.
Farmer had earlier scored in both the first and second round victories over Chesterfield and Bradford City at the Prostar Stadium.
Farmer and his Shrewsbury team mate Partridge were called up by Brian Flynn to the Wales under-17 squad for a UEFA tournament in Sweden in August.
Farmer started a 2-1 defeat against Turkey and a 2-1 victory over Norway before coming off the bench as a sub in the 1-0 reverse at the hands of hosts Sweden. He will now be hoping to gain further international recognition.
