Delight as Lloyd takes charge

Mike Lloyd has been appointed as the new manager of Knighton Town in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South).

Lloyd was handed the job at the weekend with Stuart Jarvis named as his number two.

The Radnor Robins have completed the transfer of Jack Bowen from local rivals Presteigne and chairman Gary Cooper is hoping the club can sign a couple more players this month to bolster the squad.

Speaking after the club’s latest managerial appointment, an upbeat Cooper said: “There is a positive attitude around the club and we will be pushing hard for a top six finish over the second half of the season.”

Lloyd began this season as manager at Builth Wells but was surprisingly asked to step down in October despite the Lant men being third in the table.

His first game in charge of Knighton is at home against Llandrindod Wells, the club where he enjoyed a successful spell as youth team manager.

He led the young Spa side to the Herefordshire FA Floodlit Youth League title and also Central Wales Youth Cup glory in 2004-05.

Lloyd said earlier this week: “I have enjoyed my break but am glad to be back in football and given the chance to work with a good young team.

“I’m particularly del-ighted to be working with a loyal assistant manager in Stuart Jarvis who always puts the clubs needs and interests foremost.”

Russell Worton is also to continue to take the club’s training sessions.

Lloyd reiterated the chairman’s comments about an exciting future for Knighton.

He added: “We are looking forward to a good end of season and a top six finish is a realistic aim.”
