Make-or-break for villagers

Newbridge are preparing for a massive cup weekend. The Villagers visit Presteigne tomorrow (Saturday) in a Spar Mid Wales League Cup quarter-final tie before hosting Llandrindod Wells in the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup semi-final on Sunday – weather permitting!

And with their outstanding Central Wales Cup tie against Tywyn/Bryncrug rescheduled for next Saturday, it will be a big eight days in Newbridge’s season and their hunt for silverware.

Manager Kevin Price admits: “It is a huge week with three cup games – and it really is make or break for our season”.

It will be Newbridge’s second visit to Llanandras Park this season – the sides drew 2-2 in an earlier league meeting, with Sam Williams twice to put Newbridge ahead, only to see Sam Pearson and  Kenny Styles hit back.

Styles misses tomorrow’s tie as he is suspended along with Lee Sutton, while Presteigne have also got to leave out new signings Tom Davies and Lewis Jones, who were not signed 14 days before the conference date.

Luke Boundford returns for Newbridge to face his former club, and Rhys Thomas is also back, but Christian Jones is one of the thousands of Welshmen heading for Murrayfield this weekend. Tom Rowlands is another who is unavailable.

Presteigne will be out to avenge a 3-2 Radnorshire Cup defeat at Newbridge – that result putting The Villagers into the semi-finals, where they take on local rivals, Llandrindod Wells on Sunday.

Newbridge will face their former midfielder Ben Jones, who is now at The Broadway following a spell with Rhayader Town.

lIn last week’s Journal, it was reported that Bobby Bird of Presteigne Reserves and Mark Ammonds of Presteigne Colts were sent off in a recent Radnor Valley Cup tie between the teams. Neither player was shown a red card and our reporter would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to both the players and clubs for the misunderstanding.
