Daggers are drawn in readiness for tomorrow (Saturday) when the top two teams in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South) go head-to-head.
Hay St Marys’ walkover against Guilsfield Reserves in the Emrys Morgan Cup last weekend mean they make the short trip to Gwernyfed with a semi-final berth in the area’s major junior Cup competition at stake.
Gwernyfed, who took over at the top of the Mid Wales League (South) on Saturday, have a major injury doubt over captain Alan Davies, while Dan Tuerena is definitely ruled out.
Player-manager Gavin Perry is also awaiting the availability of Austin Mellor.
Gwernyfed were this week expected to sign their former midfielder, Kevin Lloyd, although he would be ineligible tomorrow.
Hay recorded a 2-0 win when the teams met in the league at Gwernyfed and Perry said earlier this week: “I just hope we can compete this time”.
Referring to that league defeat he added: “We bottled it the last time and fell to pieces after the first 20 minutes”.
Hay welcome back Josh Wisniewski so will be at full strength, with chairman Martin Tong saying he is again looking forward to the tie. “The same as last time would suit us but again the first goal will be very important,” he added.
Hay are taking a good following, with their Reserve team having no fixture, but the tie, like all other games tomorrow, is in serious doubt because of the weather.
Neither side has ever reached the prestigious final, Hay losing to Penparcau in last season’s semi-final while Gwernyfed reached the last four in 2006 before bowing out to Penrhyncoch Reserves.
Emrys Morgan Cup quarter-final draw: Gwernyfed v Hay St Marys, Llanidloes Town v Llansantffraid Village, St Dogmaels or Dolgellau v Montgomery Town, Tregaron or Penrhyncoch Res v Defaid Du.
