Net closing in on car thieves

One of Wales’ young rally stars whose £50,000 car was stolen from his parents’ Builth Wells garage, has warned the thieves the net will be closing around them because the car is so recognisable.

Jason Pritchard’s Subaru Impreza was taken over the weekend from Toyota North Road Garage in the town, where he works.

The 20-year-old, who became the youngest winner of Citroen’s British C2R2 Cup at the Wales Rally GB last December, said the car has many distinctive features and the thieves will not even be able to refuel it without the right equipment.

“The thing is the car registration OU55 DKN is so distinguishable I am sure they will be caught,” he said.

“It has got my website address on it for a start and all the signs on it are made from the same material as road signs, so as soon as a light is shone on it it illuminates, so it stands out.

“The vehicle has been built by Prodrive, a company specialising in preparing Subaru rally cars.

“All the component parts have been stamped by Prodrive and I have all the codes,” said Mr Pritchard.

“The car is distinctive and quite unique. If the thieves don’t have the proper equipment they won’t be able to open the fuel cap, and it requires specialist fuel as well.

“The net is closing as they say, but at the moment I am feeling really down about having it stolen.

“It has really put a dampener on what has been a great 12 months for me in the sport.”

The car had recently been advertised for sale, and Jason was not planning to use it this year as Citroen has provided him with a new vehicle.

The thieves also took a trailer and another vehicle from his parents’ garage.

Dyfed Powys Police said the car had been taken sometime between last Saturday evening and 9am on Monday.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 330 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
