Fireworks fest fizzles

A prestigious Ludlow-based fireworks festival has become the latest victim of the credit crunch.

For the last two years, the Ludlow Festival of Fireworks has taken place at Ludlow Racecourse. But organisers have pulled the plug on the 2009 event.

However they have promised to come back bigger and better on Saturday, November 6, 2010.

Roy Major, the chairman of the Ludlow Fireworks Committee, said: “The first two years of the Ludlow Festival of Fireworks on bonfire night at Ludlow Racecourse have been a huge success, both providing safe and enjoyable family entertainment as well as raising money for local charities and the national charity Action Medical Research.

“This year our financial world is a different story and so the committee has decided to ‘skip a year’ and concentrate our efforts into an even better Festival of Fireworks in 2010,” he continued.

Mr Major was keen to let Journal readers know that the event had not “failed.” He said: “It has not failed. It’s a good management decision.

“The festival has done well for the first two years, and we don’t want to mess it up.”

Mr Major said he was confident the festival would continue to be a major fun event for the people of Ludlow and surrounding area, as well as raising money for Local to Ludlow and national charities.

He wanted to thank local businesses and individuals for their support for the fireworks event and invite help for 2010.

“We thank all those who have supported the festival of fireworks for the last two years and welcome further offers of help of charitable requests of any kind to help put on our next event.”
