Presteigne top of ‘rich list’

It’s official – Presteigne is one of the most expensive places to live in Wales, according to a new survey.

In the Welsh Property Rich List published this week, Presteigne was revealed as Wales’s 13th most expensive address out of 20.

The survey compiled by leading house price website Zoopla.co.uk, which provides free value estimates for every UK, claims the average house price in the Presteigne postcode of LD8 will set you back £200,048.

But Presteigne home owners may well not be celebrating the fact that the average home in the town has lost almost £43,238 in value over the past 12 months, a whopping 17.77 per cent drop.

Presteigne Mayor Councillor Colin Kirkby said: “Presteigne is a nice place to be and it has a good reputation. It also has a limited housing stock which creates more demand for what is available. I do look at house prices in Presteigne and think that they are not cheap so I am not surprised by this at all.

“Locally it’s known as a nice place to live and it has been named in two surveys for being one of the most pleasant places to live – that is the up side. The down side is that young people and first-time buyers can’t afford to get on the housing ladder.”
