Windfarm graffiti

Several properties in New Radnor have been daubed with logos in favour of windfarm development in an overnight attack.

At each of the properties the people responsible had used black paint and a stencil to spray on the logos, which are approximately 12 inches in height and take the form of a three-bladed windmill, with a ‘thumbs up sign’ making up the base.

The graffiti happened sometime between 10pm on April 15 and 6am on April 16, an horrendous night with torrential rain and a thunderstorm.

One couple, Dai and Carolyn Price of Church Street, awoke to find the logo had been stencilled on to their garage wall, which is on the roadside.

They said: “It must have been done during the night. Given the time and weather conditions, the ‘artist/s’ must have felt pretty sure that no-one would see them in action.

“Why is it that people (who apparently have strong convictions FOR renewable energy of this type) do not have the courage to make themselves and their cause known instead of sneaking about anonymously?

“We are in favour of developing renewable energy. However, in this area of Wales, where the job opportunities are usually linked with tourism, we believe that it is the rolling hills and majestic mountains, the unspoilt skyline which attracts so many visitors and generates a lot of income.

“Here in Mid Wales we have the opportunity to further develop our streams and rivers for more  hydro-electricity, thus enhancing our already beautiful part of the country.”

The matter has been reported to Dyfed Powys Police.

Constable Andrew Smart, who is investigating the incident, said: “On speaking with local residents these actions have only caused to stir up negative feelings towards the windfarm and therefore are having the opposite effect of what the perpetrators have seemingly intended.”

Anyone who has information on he incident should contact PC Smart on 0845 330 2000.
