Earlier finish at Norton Manor

A Presteigne hotel’s lic-ensing hours have been reduced slightly in a bid to reach a compromise with some residents who had complained about noise and disturbance from dance events.

The Norton Manor Hotel will have to close at 1am instead of 2am on Monday to Sundays in the future following a licence review last week.

The review was held following complaints from some local residents on nearby Norton Manor Park about loud bass music, revving car engines, alcohol litter and nuisance following Bish Bosh dance events.

A large number of letters were received in support of the premises were received by Powys County Council but they were deemed not to be relevant as they did not relate to the promotion of the licensing objectives and so were not part of the report to the Panel.

The hotel will also have to submit a written schedule of works within three months to soundproof the premises to control the level of noise emitted. The approved works have to be completed within three months.

The hotel, which is owned by Leisure Nights Ltd and Sidney Taylor who established Leg’s Eleven, Birmingham’s first lap dancing club in 1996, has held a licence for the manor since March 4 last year.

They have a right of appeal to the Magistrates Court against the decision of the reviewing panel but hotel manager Jose Sousa said the hotel was satisfied with the changes.

“It will be ok – it will not make much of a difference to us to have to close at 1am, because I have been closing then at times anyway.

“We also have to undertake some sound proofing work but we have done some already.

“We held a couple of school proms for Ludlow College and John Beddoes High School just before the review and that helped us because the local residents were satisfied with the way the events went.

“I have stopped the Bish Bosh events and events which are open to the general public because I was unable to control visitors’  behaviour.”
