Presteigne hand top job to Broome

Presteigne St Andrews FC have appointed Tim Broome as manager of the club’s Spar Mid Wales League side for the coming season. He replaces Mike Symonds who stepped down ten days ago.

Broome attended Monday evening’s committee meeting, at which he spelt out his vision for the future of the club and the steps he felt were needed to achieve those goals.

Presteigne chairman Alan Randell said the committee had been impressed by the new manager’s enthusiasm and especially by the fact he had clearly done his homework before attending the meeting:

“Being quizzed by around 20 people must have been daunting but the committee was impressed by the way in which Tim handled it,” he said.

“He has his UEFA ‘B’ coaching badge and has experience of playing at a decent level in South Wales, as well as in the Spar League with Newbridge.

“He is used to managing people in his day job which will clearly be an asset, while he has developed good contacts within the local football world that should help him in the search for new players,” he added.

Broome, 28, is manager of Knighton Leisure Centre and was formerly the Sports Development Officer in Herefordshire.

On learning of his appointment, Tim said he was relishing the challenge:

“I am delighted the committee has the faith in me and am really looking forward to getting started, “ he said.

“In an ideal world we would have had more time to get organised, but I am confident I can add to the squad in time for the first competitive match.

“I am hoping that when the word gets around that a number of those players who have been undecided due to the circumstances the club found itself in will now decide to stay and help us push on this season,” he added.

Tim was due to meet the players at training last night (Thursday) and will now look to finalise some pre-season fixtures before the season gets under way on Saturday, August 15.
