The parish priest of St. Paul’s Church in Knowbury has taken more than a few steps beyond the call of duty, say his parishioners.
The Rev Richard Green has just finished a sponsored walk following the course of the River Teme in Beguildy, in the Kerry Hills of Powys north Wales to its confluence with the Severn at Worcester – a distance of some 75 miles.
The weather was not especially kind, but there was lots of bonhomie on the way with ‘ Good Samaritans’ ready to offer hot coffee, a warm bed and a square meal – or even a pint or two.
St Paul’s Church needs £75,000 for essential repairs to the building and Father Green did the walk to help raise some money towards this total.
One stretch went from Ashford Carbonel to Tenbury Wells where Father Green was given an overnight stay at the home of Rev Claire Lording.
His walk raised about £2,000 in sponsorship and the cash will go toward repairs to the Knowbury church.
Father Green will be showing pictures from his ‘Odyssey’ at a special evening in St. Paul’s Church next Saturday, August 8, at 7pm. Entry is free, light refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome.
