There was both good and bad news for Hay manager Chris Baynton as the start of the new football season looms ever closer.
The bad news is that Ben Bevan is likely to be ruled out until after Christmas as he awaits a knee operation while Baynton also revealed that fellow left sided player Phil Davies will miss the first month of the season.
But on the plus side, Gavin Williams has finally put pen to paper for The Saints who have also signed accomplished right back Danny Jones.
Hay missed out on the season’s first silverware last Sunday when they were beaten 3-1 by Treharrris in the Brecon Town Cup final.
A couple of defensive errors gave Treharris an early two goal lead but Josh Wisniewski and Kevin Jones combined for Gavin Williams to pull one back.
The South Wales side regained their the goal advantage before half time and, although Hay dominated after the break, there was no way back for Hay.
That was despite impressive new signing Brian Dyer having a ‘goal’ ruled out and Kevin Jones also going close.
Hay’s friendly against Westfields was postponed on Wednesday night due to the heavy rain during the day.
Meanwhile, Hay Reserves look as if they could enjoy a good season in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South) after thumping Kington Town Reserves 8-1 on Monday night.
Jon Sly led the way with a hat-trick with Kevin Goodwin (2), Zac Snape, Will Goodwin and Haydn Williams completing the tally for Andrew Harris’s side.
Both Hay teams are away at Bow Street tomorrow (Saturday, August 1, 2009).
