Police appeal after death crash

An elderly man died following a road traffic collision on a road near Cleobury Mortimer on Tuesday.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash, involving two cars, that happened on the B4194 Buttonoak to Kinlet road at around 11am.

One of the vehicles, a Fiat Punto, was heading towards Buttonoak and the other, an Audi A4, was travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Punto was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision by paramedics.

The passenger, a lady believed to be in her 70s, suffered a hip injury and bruising and was taken to hospital in Worcester.

Witnessed

The driver of the Audi was not injured and both vehicles suffered front end damage.

The road was closed until about 2.30pm while collision investigators worked and the vehicles and debris were removed from the carriageway.

The South Shropshire coroner, Anthony Sibcy, has been informed and a post mortem will be held in due course. Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen the crash or either vehicle just beforehand to contact them.
