Best foot forward!

It’s almost that time of year again – the time when walkers descend on south Shropshire to help firefighters and a local school.

The 3rd Wistanstow Walk takes place on Saturday, September 12, and will raise money for Wistanstow CE Primary School and The Firefighters’ Charity.

The walk is a 26-mile route, starting from Wistanstow Village Hall, and taking competitors to Clun and Bishop’s Castle.

Breakfast is provided at the start of the event and food is also offered at the two main checkpoints and at the end of the event.
It is organised by the Marches Group of the Long Distance Walker Association and, last year, attracted 97 competitors raising £700 for the school and local firefighters. Organiser and firefighter Phil Clarke said anyone who wanted to walk 12 or 18 miles of the course would be given a lift back to Wistanstow Village Hall.
Last year, the winning time was Adrian Donnelly in five hours , 20 minutes, and the fastest woman (in five hours and 59 minutes) was All Stretton’s Alison Hartshorne. The last finished completed the course in 12 hours, nine minutes.
