Presteigne’s delight

CARNO 3,         RHAYADER TOWN 0

Rhayader Town won at Carno in their opening game last season but the roles were reversed this time around as two goals from Tom Richards helped the hosts to victory.

The Weirglodd team were very much in the game in the first half despite creating very little and a goal from Richards who was released by Danny Pierce separated the sides at half time.

Geraint Jones was put through by Jack Bermingham to increase the lead and Rhayader’s hopes faded with midfielder Tom Bethell dismissed for picking up a second yellow card.

Richards, who failed to score throughout last season, took his tally to three from the opening two games when he completed Carno’s win latching on to Pierce’s pinpoint 40 yard pass.

Elsewhere, Llansantffraid maintained their good start with Wayne Austin netting the winner in a 2-1 verdict at Dyffryn Banw. Nathan Prodger had headed Llansantffraid in front but Mark Grifffithe equalised from the penalty spot.

Dolgellau marked their debut with Dave Edwards and Dafydd Jones scoring in a a 2-2 draw at home against Tywyn/Bryncrug, for whom Ben Holt netted twice.

Caersws Reserves and Llanrhaeadr played out a goalless draw while Bow Street and Penparcau also shared the points where it finished 2-2. Tony Jones and Darren Middleton gave Street a two goal lead before Andrew Carree, against his former club, and Lee Jones hit back.
