Having suffered a couple of losses in the previous weeks, the Linney men roared back with an emphatic 44-12 win over their county rivals to move up to fourth in Midlands Two West (North).
“It was probably our strongest team and best performance of the season,” said director of rugby Phil Norton. “Bridgnorth are not as strong as they used to be but it was a great effort from all of the lads.
“After playing so well, we’ll be very confident against Wolverhampton, and we need to build on that before our big test at home to leaders Dixonians the following week.”
There was little to choose between the sides in the early stages at Bridgnorth but Ludlow took charge with four first half tries. Joe Doyle crossed for the visitors, converted by Will Norton, with Paul Markevics replying with an unconverted score.
But it was Ludlow who took control for the remainder of the first half, opening up a 27-5 lead thanks to a further score from Doyle, tries from Darren Brick and South African debutant Jabulani Motloung, and a conversion and penalty from Norton.
Norton added a penalty to make it 30-5 before Bridgnorth stopped the rot when Craig Thomas crossed for a fine touchdown, Chris Cadwallader adding the extras.
But Ludlow had the final say and tries from Ed MacFarlane and Mike Jones, both converted by Norton, wrapped up a comprehensive victory.
“Ludlow are a good side and will certainly be up there come the end of the season,” said Bridgnorth skipper Gareth Bladen.
Meanwhile, Ludlow are again being backed by Lanyon Bowdler solicitors.Partner with Lanyon Bowdler and keen rugby fan Colin Spanner said: “I am pleased we, as a firm, are able to show our support.”
The team’s training kit bears the Lanyon Bowdler logo, as do the match shirts. Club chairman Wynne Jones said: “We are grateful to all our sponsors, the club has a great atmosphere and is run by a team of dedicated supporters.
“We have been pretty busy – we’re about to launch a new website, the annual children’s Christmas party will take place on December, 20 and in the New Year we will be holding a curry evening, a race night and of course our annual golf day.”
