LUDLOW have no major concerns over a fixture backlog despite the big freeze continuing to decimate the rugby programme. The Linney men had been due to host Stourbridge Lions last Saturday as they looked to get back among the front runners in Midlands Two West (North).
However, they were foiled by a frozen pitch – with the same outcome likely for tomorrow’s trip to Willenhall.
“Our pitch was frozen last week, we very nearly got the game on but it was not to be,” said club spokesman Phil Norton. “But there’s no concern over a fixture backlog for us at the moment.
“If tomorrow’s game is not played, it’s only the second game we have lost through the weather and we’ve got enough free Saturdays later in the season.
“There are two or three allocated for the national cup, which we’re no longer in. The only issue might be the North Midlands Shield against Worcester Wanderers. We could have to play that on a Sunday.”
Norton said Ludlow were fortunate to have good training facilities available. “Our coach Stuart Jardine is a PE teacher at Ludlow School, and we can use their indoor facilities if the weather is not good enough to train outside,” he said.
Ludlow also managed a workout against Tenbury which saw several of the squad take the field. Joe Doyle scored the one try as the Linney men lost 13-5. Meanwhile, the club held a dinner to mark former player Andy Jones’ emigration to New Zealand, with a full house at the Linney.
