Schoolboy film fan shoots a new ’short’

A TALENTED south Shropshire schoolboy, who is mad on the Wallace and Gromit animations, has produced his own short film and staged a public screening.

Louis Bluhm, from Lydbury North, is a student at The Community College, Bishop’s Castle, and has managed to find time between studies to create an animation featuring the music of local band Hoover the Dog.

Louis then staged a screening of the short film at Lydbury North Village Hall.

The short film was shown before the main Flicks in the Sticks screening of the classic Singing in the Rain with Gene Kelly.

Louis said the film took him a year, on and off, to create the four minute animation which uses a mixture of claymation, live footage and real objects.

Shona Bluhm said her son had always been interested in animation and his hero was Wallace and Gromit director Nick Park.

“He’s always taking hundreds of stills with my digital camera and then joining them together to make films,” Shona said.

Hoover the Dog’s band members are family friends, and were delighted to have their music featured in the film, Shona added.

So what does the future hold for the budding film maker?

Shona said Louis was keen to tackle some work experience in the world of animation. But added his long term dream was to become a marine biologist!

The film, on the website youtube, it can be found by typing in “hoover the dog , freewheeling” into the search engine Google.
