Presteigne lost one of its great characters this week when Arthur, the museum cat from The Judge’s Lodging, passed away.
Arthur has been a much-loved figure in the town for many years, not only with all visitors to the museum, but also with residents.
Indeed, he had his own spot for a little nap at The Dukes Arms pub, just up the road from The Judge’s Lodging, where regulars were used to seeing him strolling around.
He also took a great shine to a local B & B, where he had an Aga to curl up by and some really decent grub!
But during the day, it was at The Judge’s Lodging that Arthur chose to make his home, sitting usually by the front door so everyone had to stroke him as they came in – he was most attention-seeking!
Two years ago he had his ears removed, giving him a most odd appearance and the talk of all visitors.
Kids loved him and some people came just to visit him.
He had Christmas cards and holiday postcards sent to him regularly, featured in Catworld magazine and even once appeared on TV.
Arthur came from Telford with his owner June Roberts, who lived with him behind the museum.
But when June moved, Arthur decided he would like to live in the historic property instead and promptly took up residence.
Senior Curator at the museum, Gaby Rivers said: “He will be hugely missed and the staff at the museum would like to thank everyone who has fussed over him through the years.”
