Biomass site on sale

LAND at the Bishop’s Castle Business Park intended for the controversial £5m biomass burner is set to be put up for sale.

A Shropshire Council cabinet meeting this week  approved a recommendation to sell the land that was granted planning permission last September following an appeal by Bishop’s Castle Biomass Power Ltd.

But, the company did not secure an option to purchase the site and it is now for sale along with the rest of the business park that remains undeveloped.

Karen Bavastock, chairman of the Bishop’s Castle Group, which led residents’ protests, said: “We do hope that the council will look upon applications from local people and organisations favourably. There are a number of people who would like to do something on that site. We hope that they will pick something that is more appropriate than a biomass power plant.”

Chris Day for  Bishop’s Castle Biomass Power Ltd, said there was an agreement with the former South Shropshire District Council that the land would be purchased once planning permission was granted. The company would continue with its plan to acquire the site, he added.
