Around Llandrindod, people were shocked to see the cordoned off areas and police presence on the streets.
The Commodore Hotel which faces on to Temple Gardens said no-one there had seen or heard anything of the incident and the same was the case at the Metropole Hotel on the other side of the gardens and the Manor.
At the Glen Usk Hotel a receptionist said about 40 guests had stayed at the hotel on the night of the incident and no-one had seen or heard anything. She said the police had called and had asked if they had CCTV cameras.
One woman, whose flat faces on to Temple Gardens, said her blinds had been down all night and she had not heard anything.
Police are still appealing for witnesses, in particular would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity or knows of anyone else who was in the area at the time, or has any information that could help the investigation.
