A new board charged with taking on one of the Powys County Council’s biggest ever projects – modernising secondary schools and post 16 education – has been set up.
The new board was needed after a discussion paper suggesting up to seven high schools in Powys could close and sixth forms could be lost, was leaked to the media.
Shocked councillors said they knew nothing about the proposals, and a group which had been established to look at the future of education in the county was disbanded.
The council promised a new group would be set up with input from councillors.
At a meeting of Powys County Council’s Board on Tuesday, the membership and programme of work for the new Community Programme Board was unanimously agreed.
It will be recommended for approval at a full council meeting today (Friday).
