Supermarket’s big give-away

TUFFINS supermarket chain is today distributing funds raised at its 2009 award-winning, charity Fun Day to local community groups and charities.

Representatives from various community organizations will gather at Tuffins supermarkets in Ludlow, Craven Arms and Cleobury Mortimer to receive well earned donations to support and assist local initiatives.

Richard Whittall, operations director of Harry Tuffins said: “As an independent retailer we are always working hard to make a valuable contribution to our communities.”

“Annually our charity Fun Day raises thousands of pounds for local community groups and charities.

“In 2009 the Fun Day at Churchstoke saw its best ever attendance with a staggering £33,000 raised as a final total thanks to  the generosity of customers, suppliers, visitors and exhibitors”

Community groups including Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital; Cleobury Mortimer Parish Hall; Cleobury Mortimer Primary School and Youth Forum and Ludlow Junior school will all receive money at local presentations throughout the week. Hope House, the largest recipient has been allocated £4,000 this year.

Ruby and Roy Delves, the daughter and son-in-law of Harry Tuffin, who founded the business in 1950 are presenting the cheques today.

Ruby, joint chairperson for Tuffins said: “It is a privilege to be able to continue to support our local communities in this way, even in this strained economic climate we find ourselves in.

Preparations for our 2010 Fun Day, in the sixtieth year that my dad started our business, are well under way and we hope to be able to raise as much if not more monies this year.”

This year, the 16th consecutive year it has been held, the Fun Day will be on Sunday, August 1, at Churchstoke.
