College’s former deputy head loses brave battle with cancer

Sue Goldie, a former deputy head at the Community College, Bishop’s Castle, died peacefully at her home in Guilsfield, Powys, on April 11, after a brave fight against cancer.Born in 1939, she joined the staff in Bishop’s Castle in 1988 and remained there until her retirement in 1997.

Former headmaster, David Preshous, said: “Sue Goldie was a fine and high-principled teacher, a wise manager, and a true friend.

“She was a cheerful, enthusiastic, and tireless worker, and someone in whom both teachers and pupils readily confided.”

The funeral was held at Shrewsbury Crematorium on Wednesday.  Donations in her memory, to WaterAid and Macmillan Cancer Support can be made through the Sue Goldie Trust Fund, c/o R.G. Peate, Funeral Director, Salop Road, Welshpool, Powys, SY21 9EG.
