There will be two new teams competing in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South) next season with Bronllys FC and Knighton Victoria admitted at Monday night’s well attended AGM.
The newly formed Bronllys club will play at Gwernyfed High School and use the school’s changing facilities. And with Knighton Town set to field a second team from Bryn-y-Castell, it means the league will run with 16 teams. The Robins’ second string, who have to operate as a separate club, will be managed by former under-16 team boss Roddy Jones.
League champs Builth Wells have been promoted to the Spar Mid Wales League to division one. Llandrindod, Rhosgoch and Talgarth Town will join the new Spar League second division.
CP Llanandras have withdrawn following just one season. There will be no Builth Wednesdays, Llandrindod Wells Colts or Talgarth Rovers as all three will be running as the reserves of their senior teams.
The league, which will again be sponsored by Watson Associates, will kick off on Saturday, August 14 with the Summer Cup final between Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells to be played as a curtain raiser to the campaign.
Clubs will be charged a £20 affiliation fee with a £10 entry for the League Cup although both the League and the Radnorshire Cup made a slight profit over the season which was shown in treasurer Phil Woosnam’s statement of accounts.
This was largely due to excellent gates in both the League Cup and Radnorshire Cup finals and officials thanked Hay St Marys and Rhayader Town for staging the games and everyone who supported the finals.
Chairman Edward Parry thanked sponsors Watson Associates, Pip Samuel (Electrical) and the Aspidistra Resturant and congratulated Builth Wells on their league and cup double, Presteigne on winning the Radnorshire Cup and Llandrindod Wells who brought the Emrys Morgan Cup back to the Mid Wales League (South).
Mr Parry also made a special thanks to the small band of referees who football could not do without for their dedication and commitment and concern was again voiced that no course for new referees had been run last season despite several candidates putting their names forward.
Secretary Paul Worts thanked the clubs who had all completed a mammoth 36 game league programme with the minimum of fuss despite the severe weather over the winter.
Officers for the 2010-2011 season were re-elected en bloc: President: Mr Sid Bufton, chairman: Mr Edward Parry, vice chairman: Mr Neil Mathias, treasurer: Mr Phil Woosnam, secretary, Mr Paul Worts, executive committee: Mr Alan Randell, Mrs Steph Crowther and Mr Dave Lewis.
Edward Parry and Paul Worts will continue to serve the league on the Central Wales Football Association.
Mr Tegwen Evans, MBE (Chairman of the Central Wales FA) and Mr Phil Jones (FAW member) both addressed the meeting and complimented officials for the manner in which the league had been run in what was a challenging season, with Mr Evans concluding proceedings when he presented the final Team of the Month awards for the season.
