Residents in south Shropshire are to be asked what cuts should be made to achieve £60 million in budget savings county-wide over the next three years.
Shropshire Council chief executive, Kim Ryley, and members of Shropshire Council’s cabinet will give presentations at local joint committees and hope to discover people’s priorities.
Plans are already being made for a public meeting in Craven Arms on September 30 and leaflets will be distributed to homes urging people to attend.
Town and parish councils have been told they will need to take on greater responsibility for providing local services, it is likely that budgets for the Local Joint Committees could be increased, but the number will be reduced.
Ludlow’s Shropshire councillor Martin-Taylor Smith, portfolio holder for strategic planning, said town and parish councils would have to “step up” in order to keep services such as public toilets and car parks.
Shropshire Council needs to make £10 million savings this year and £47 million over the next three years.
