One of south Shropshire’s first ever “outstanding” pre-schools will have to close in September unless volunteers agree to run its committee.
Wistanstow Under-5s will hold at extraordinary general meeting on September 15 to discuss the playgroup’s future.
Despite plenty of children attending the playgroup and the Wistanstow Whiz Kids after school and holiday clubs, no-one wants to become the organising committee’s chair or treasurer. The charity also needs trustees.
A letter went out to parents this week, stating that if no-one comes forward to help Wistanstow Under 5s will close in September.
The current chair Lesley Sys said in the letter: “I am confident that parents do not wish to see us close, but I must urge every parent/carer to consider their ability to actively support the charity and I would be very grateful if you could spare time and enthusiasm to join our small committee and to protect its future for yourselves and others.
“In the event that we do not have sufficient support to run the charity at this meeting, we shall be forced to begin to wind up the charity and close Wistanstow Under-5s playgroup.
“Wistanstow Under-5s has always relied on parent participation. Please consider how you can help this year.”
Wistanstow Under-5s was given an outstanding rating after an Ofsted inspection which took place in 2009.
