Bio-digester “will stay open”

Ludlow’s Greenfinch bio-digester plant will remain open despite Shropshire Council’s decision to have household waste sent to Market Drayton for processing.

An official statement was made by parent company BiogenGreenfinch on Wednesday saying the plant will still be processing food waste and producing renewable energy for the national grid.

Greenfinch’s contract with Shropshire Council to deal with food waste from homes in Ludlow, Church Stretton and Craven Arms was ended by councillors last week.

Richard Barker, chief executive officer of BiogenGreenfinch, said: “Biocycle already takes domestic food waste from Flintshire, Ceredigion and Powys County Councils along with commercial food waste from south Shropshire and this will remain unchanged.”
