Fun for all at Llanyre

Llanyre annual sports and show returned with a bang on Saturday after being cancelled last year because of a waterlogged field.

The show was officially opened by Julian Gibson-Watt and went very well despite some rain in the morning threatening to spoil it. But it dried up in time for the afternoon’s entertainment and the show was a success as a result.

Committee member Des Lewis said: “The show went very well and it was a success. There were probably not as many people there as normal because we had to cancel it last year and in the morning it was wet and it probably put some people off.

“But there were lots of entries in the children’s races and lots of dogs and good entries in all the traditional show competitions.”

It was an afternoon packed full of fun for all the family with a children’s carnival, football and children’s creations for the youngsters.

In the traditional sections there were competitions in photography, handicrafts, cookery, produce, a floral section and agricultural events. There was also a children’s pet show and dog show.

Eye-catching sideshows included motorbike trailer rides, a bouncy slide, skittles and golf.

The main programme was followed by a game of challenge football with Llanyre playing against Llanfihangel Helygen.
