Chance to join ‘green’ homes tour

Stretton Climate Care has a new idea – instead of visiting other folk’s gardens, have a tour of their ‘green’ homes.

Seven homes in and around the Strettons are opening their doors tomorrow (Saturday) to share a variety of ideas on energy efficiency and low carbon living.

The ideas range from innovative approaches to insulation, electric bikes and cars, rainwater harvesting to solar water and photovoltaic panels.

It’s a great opportunity to look around, get ideas and advice from ordinary folk who have tried out different ways of making their carbon footprints smaller.

The homes include Acton Scott Hall, home of Tom Acton (of Victorian Farm fame), and an off-grid cottage with wind turbine under Caradoc. The homes are to be opened to the public from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.

An entry leaflet costs just £2 per family to visit any or all of the homes.

They will be available on the day itself from the Stretton Climate Care stall in the Market Place.

Parking is not easy at several of the homes and in the spirit of low carbon living, visitors are encouraged to not use cars if possible.

A Climate Care spokesman said: “Walk, hop on a bike, book a bike for hire from Plush Hill Cycles in Church Strettomn, or share cars.

“You can join a group cycling around together, leaving the Market Place at 2.15pm.

“The community bus will leave the Market Place at 2pm to travel to Acton Scott Hall and homes in Little Stretton, returning around 3.45pm .

“It will depart again at 4pm from the Market Place towards Wall and Caradoc. All seats are £1 per trip.”

The leaflet has details of all the homes and a map to help you find them.

Each home will have useful information sheets and some will provide tea and cakes.
