A complaint about broadband speed from an Orange customer in Ludlow has been received sympathetically by the company after the Journal took up the case.
Neill Rutherford wrote to the Journal claiming that people in Ludlow and area are being misled by Orange’s claim to provide the best coverage in this area.
“The problem is that in Ludlow the is only one 3G and one 2G phone tower, and at times there are just too many people using this equipment to allow broadband connection to work effectively,” said Neill.
“This is especially true when children are home from school
“I am fortunate that my 18- month contract is now over as I would not recommend to anyone to sign up for Orange mobile broadband in the Ludlow area.
“I hope adverse publicity may induce orange to increase their coverage and bandwidth in Ludlow.
“Orange does give out discounts on monthly bills.
“I received a three months at £5 discount three months ago when complaining to them at the time.
“The service then was not as bad as I am finding it is now.”
A spokesman for Orange said: “We can confirm that some customers in the Ludlow area may be experiencing reduced network coverage.
“This is owing to a technical issue and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.
“We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”
“We are continuing to invest in and improve our network every day to provide customers who live and work in rural locations such as Ludlow with the best possible service.
“We are always looking at opportunities to update sites and to ensure that all of our customers can receive high quality 3G network coverage across the UK.”
