Wembley wonders Bishop’s Castle savoured their chance to run out on the hallowed turf as part of the FA/McDonalds National Football Festival.
The club’s under-10 team had a tour of the ground, joining budding footballers from all over the country for the special day out – and also got the chance to meet Manchester United and
England striker Michael Owen and 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst. Owen cast his eye over a selection of future England hopefuls including those from Bishop’s Castle as 55 Charter Standard clubs were given a dream day out at England’s HQ.
The Castle youngsters enjoyed an action packed day of coaching and mini-tournaments, including expert tuition from former West Ham United midfielder and FA Cup winner Geoff Pike.
And the club’s under-10 manager Owen Jones was delighted his side were offered the once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Playing on the pitch is a dream come true for them, but then to see Michael Owen, who is a hero to so many of the kids, was just incredible.
“It’s been a great day and we’ve all had a superb time,” he said.
