PLANS are finalised for this year’s Ludlow Green Festival and it’s all systems go.
The festival is organised by Ludlow 21 – the voluntary, community-based group in Ludlow that encourages all people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
Its aim is to raise awareness of the massive environmental challenges facing us all and, at the same time, demonstrate how people can enrich their lives by treading more lightly on the earth. The event begins tomorrow (Saturday) with a huge range of workshops and demonstrations on Castle Square from 10.30am-4.30pm.
There’s basket-weaving, rag rug making using recycled textiles and people can even learn how to make a besom brush.
There’s an Allotment Open Day at Wigley’s Field Allotments, near the Cliffe Hotel, Dinham Bridge, from 10am-4pm on Sunday. Gardeners will be on hand to demonstrate their methods and crops.
Visitors can compare organic and other ways of producing good looking and tasty food.
Today (Friday) Shropshire Council’s historic environment team will be constructing a basic straw bale round house as part of the festival.
The house, which is being built to showcase this technology, will be declared officially open at 11am tomorrow by Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, who will then auction it off at 4pm on Sunday.
Proceeds from the auction will help to support local charities. For young people there’s a children’s activity tent on the Square from 10am to 4pm offering free activities
There are free things to do for younger children with an environmental theme. Children with their parents can enjoy games, painting, stories and toys – maybe some cooking – in a safe and supervised area.
There’s live entertainment in the Square all weekend including music from local folk/rock band IssyJack, and the Simon King & Casey Greene duo.
