CLUB members turned out in force for finals day at Brimfield Bowls Club and were treated to an entertaining day of competition in summer sunshine.
Ashley Edwards won the first match of the day, claiming the Arthur Edwards Trophy for the second successive year.
He beat Barbara Griffiths 21-17 in an exciting match.
The Albert Duval Cup was won by Helen Skinner and Maurice Bassett. Their opponents Jennie Cole and Archie Vaughan established a 9-2 lead after seven ends, but Skinner and Bassett fought their way back to run out 12-10 winners.
David Evans, Bill Wheatley and Mike Owen were comfortable winners of the John Collett Triples, defeating David Russell, Liz and Doug Smurthwaite 18-10.
Helen Skinner took the ladies’ singles title by beating Jill Turberfield 21-9.
The Millennium Plate produced another cliff-hanger. Colin Sparrow, in his fourth appearance in the final of this competition, was up against Liz Smurthwaite. After 21 ends they were level at 17-17, but Sparrow drew ahead to win 21-17.
In the Tandler Mixed Pairs, Bill and Marian Wheatley ran out winners against Doug Turner and Jennie Cole 18-10.
In the Barnett Bowl, Archie Vaughan and Jennie Cole made a confident start against Maurice Bassett and Ashley Edwards, going 8-0 up after three ends. They kept up the pressure and eventually won 13-6.
The final competition of the day was the Cecil O’Boyle Shield. Liz Smurthwaite, Maurice Bassett and Ashley Edwards pulled off a 9-5 win against David Russell, Dot Wall and Bill Wheatley.
