THIS year’s renewal of the Ludlow 21 Group’s Green Festival and Fair drew large numbers of visitors to the town over the bank holiday weekend.
The two-day event played host to green activities and workshops around the town on Saturday, and then the traditional Green Fair in Castle Square on Sunday.
All 60 of the fair’s stalls were taken, with an array of traders and exhibitors offering eco-friendly products and information. A highlight was the first regional public showing of Ludlow-based company Riversimple’s innovative hydrogen-powered car.
The children’s activity tent, straw bale house and Museum on the Move also proved to be popular, while the sights, sounds and smells of the market itself made for a truly vibrant experience.
The award for the best presented stall was awarded to the Ludlow Fairtrade Town team.
The soundtrack to the fair was provided by a strong line up of three local bands: the IzzyJack Band, Simon King and Casey Greene and 2CV, with new vocalist Kate Aubin-Thompson proving to be a hit with the crowd.
At Wigleys Field, Dinham allotment holders hosted an open day, fielding gardening questions from visitors and offering samples of their own produce.
Organising committee chairman Roger Furniss said: ‘“The committee work hard all year planning this and many other events, so to be rewarded with such enthusiasm from our visitors, and indeed with their sheer number, makes it all worthwhile. It is gratifying that the green agenda seems to be growing in people’s consciousness year on year.”
