Continued delays to the delivery of a fully-operational kidney dialysis unit for Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital have been described as ‘appalling’ by a county councillor.
The representative for Llandrindod East/West, Councillor Gary Price, said local residents who needed dialysis treatment had been waiting nearly two years for the machine.
“The continued delay of the delivery of the kidney dialysis unit for Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital is extremely appalling to local patients who need dialysis treatment.
“In letters from the former Welsh Government health minister Edwina Hart, the unit was originally to be fully operational at the end of 2009, and then mid 2011; however we are now in mid 2011 and no work has yet started.”
He said: “I am also concerned that between the dates of the two letters from the former health minister, the planned eight-station dialysis unit proposed for Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital has been downgraded to a four-bed unit.”
Cllr Price added: “ I have written to the new Welsh Government health minister, Lesley Griffiths, asking when the kidney dialysis unit will be fully operational, and why it has been downgraded.”
He said he had raised this issue in a Llandrindod Wells Health Focus meeting and would do so at the next Llandrindod Wells Town Council meeting.
