The Sheep Music festival returns to Wentes’ Meadow, Presteigne, from July 20 to 22, with a weekend packed full of music and workshops.
Six different venues will be hosting a range of genres from across the world, spanning from acoustic folk and jazz, to rock, electro, hip hop and ska.
For three years Sheep Music has been sadly absent from Presteigne, where it had become a fixture of the summer and a kick start to the holiday period.
After the last event in 2009, the organisers called it a day. Now it’s back, revived and invigorated by an all new fresh faced committee of local students and Sheep Music enthusiasts.
In this time of austerity, when tens of music festivals across the UK are either closing up shop or are struggling to survive, Sheep Music is bucking the trend.
Thirty one festivals were cancelled last year, and Glastonbury and Big Chill are both taking a year off in 2012, so festival-goers will be looking elsewhere for their fix, and Sheep Music hopes to entice them in.
“The UK festival market has been described as oversaturated and that could be true – if I was a businessman, it’s not where I would invest my money,” joked Ben Garman, 23, one of the festival co-ordinators.
“But Sheep Music is different. It’s a non-profit, non-corporate event. That means we aren’t in it for the money and we aren’t demanding people empty their bank accounts just to buy a ticket – we’re pitching on a scale people can afford.”
This year’s full line-up is yet to be announced, but brass hip-hop eight piece Lazy Habits have been confirmed as Friday night headliners.
